In the latest of a series of bold EV announcements, Ford is investing over $1.8 billion in upgrading its Canadian manufacturing complex, which will be transformed between 2024 and 2025 into a new EV-making facility. Ford will build vehicles as well as their batteries on-site.

Starting next year, Ford drivers will be able to easily access Tesla's Supercharger network – acknowledged as the best fast-charging network in the world, with over 12,000 Level 3 Chargers across the U.S. and Canada. 

The hot-selling Ford F-150 Lightning is getting another round of price hikes. Since its introduction in 2022, the Lightning has seen several jumps in starting MSRPs due to supply chain issues as well and robust demand. Some are now so expensive they aren't eligible for government incentives.

Not all electric cars are created equal. While they all have zero tailpipe emissions, some EVs consume more energy in their production and operation than others, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Its annual ranking of greenest and meanest is interesting reading.

Ramping up production of electric vehicles requires ramping up the production of batteries. Ford has announced a $3.5-billion investment in a new battery factory, which will be located in Michigan and will create 2,500 jobs. It will produce battery cells for hundreds of thousands of EVs.

"Overlanding" - off-road exploration trips in the great outdoors - typically involves a heavy, gas-guzzling truck. But the latest EV pickups have made zero-emissions overloading a possibility. An Oregon-based company is developing a new slide-in camper specifically for those trucks.
